Step Into The World Of Casino Gaming With Rabona – Enter the famous Casino di Monte-Carlo The salons and gaming rooms have been creating tales of gambling, high living and hedonism for over a century. We go behind the scenes…
The first time Rudy Tarditi won a major he was just eight years old. During a family trip to the Casino de Monte-Carlo, her father stopped her just before the large front door and handed her a single franc. He gave young Rudy a choice. Keep the room or ask his dad to go inside and find a slot machine to play. Rudy went to play, waiting patiently in the square until, at last, his father appeared – with two francs.

Decades later, Rudy remains at the casino. Today, however, he is its chief executive. Buttoned up in a neat suit, he talks about Joy on the balcony of his office, under a strong Monegasque sun.

“It was my first experience in a casino,” Tarditi tells me. “Another two francs? It was important. Indescribable! But then my father told me that I would never play again. So I didn’t. I haven’t played here since.”
He couldn’t even if he wanted to. Gambling is contractually prohibited for any employee of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (the company that owns and operates most of Monaco’s hotels, restaurants and beach clubs). It is also illegal for any Monegasque, whose nationality Tarditti now holds, to place bets inside the Casino de Monte-Carlo.
“It’s for our own protection,” he shrugs, explaining that when the casino opened in 1863, the ruler who originally planned its construction, Prince Charles III – named “Monte- Carlo”, literally “Mount Charles” – ordered that its citizens should never be allowed to gamble. The project was to bring prosperity; No bad luck.
“Monaco’s first strategy was to legalize gambling,” explains Tarditi. “Until then, there was no tourism, as Monaco was only accessible by boat. But Prince Charles III was smart enough to create this magic and build a new city within the city. A place where everything is possible.”

But Charles had help, the casino manager added. French businessman Francois Blanc, who had established a leading casino in Frankfurt, the “Spilbank Bad Homburg”, was sent to Monaco and tasked with creating a similar buzz on these shores. He would later earn the nickname “The Magician of Monte-Carlo”, after successfully attracting travelers from nearby Nice.
That explains the watch. Step down from the balcony of the Tarditi, go back inside the casino and you will find it hanging from the ceiling of a sumptuous “Sales de Jeux”. Golden and majestic, it’s the most prominent casino clock in the world (casinos, in fact, rarely have clocks). But it was a necessary development; Set up so players can time and catch Monaco’s last daily boat when there is no road or rail.
These boats still transport visitors along the Riviera today. You can see them dancing in the sparkling water through the large casino windows (another rarity; most casinos don’t have windows). But, with such views, how can the Casino de Monte-Carlo close itself to the world? Instead, the company embraced its salt-dusted views, creating expansive open-air terraces interspersed with watertight gaming tables.

This exit, Tarditi continues, retreats indoors, the first of the casino’s many luxurious temptations. From a majestic marble-columned lobby to an ocean-view terrace, the property spans countless cavernous game rooms, each covered in gold paint and furnished with plush, patterned carpets. As opulent as it is elegant, this outfit is a secondary customer attraction depending on her fingers.

“They come for the story. For styling. For legends. For the great art of the game. And, of course, for James Bond…”
Below, in the ‘Salle Blanche’, Giuseppe Cavaliere mixes drinks behind a large, shiny bar. The space was once a famous literary salon and Cavaliere, like Tarditi, invokes Bond influence. Burman says most of his day is spent serving dry vodka martinis.
“Shake, not stir,” she laughs. “Many, many people have asked for this cocktail – because Pierce Brosnan drank one here at the GoldenEye.”
Martinis are one of the epicurean delights of the Casino de Monte-Carlo. Cavaliere operates two bars, and in the “Salon Rose” restaurant – where yellow beef tartare carries on the tradition, and sea bream and sea bass are sea-caught outdoors – the oil-painted ceiling is burnished by cigar smoke. From the ledge down, it’s an immaculate dining room. But the overhead mural remained intact during the restoration, hidden behind that patch of tobacco and serving as an important and sentimental reminder of the casino’s more bacchanalian days.

But back to 007. Because more Bonds than Brosnan floated through the hallowed halls of Monte Carlo. Sean Connery’s Spin Spin was visited in Never Say Never Again, and although it wasn’t filmed in Monaco, the first iteration of Secret Agent (played by Barry Nelson in a 1954 episode of Climax!, adapted by Ian Fleming himself) was set in a casino. Much to Cavaliere’s chagrin, Nelson’s Bond ordered a simple scotch and water.
Because bartenders love to mix martinis. He, like almost all the workers, appreciates the casino’s connection to Bonds. And, when he moved here from San Remo five years ago, he did it for this “prestige”.
“We only close when all the tables in the casino are closed,” adds Cavaliere. “When the game ends, we end”. Officially, it’s 4:00 p.m. most nights, although casinos push it back to 6:00 a.m. when the richest high rollers demand it. Burman flies off, tray tied to outstretched fingers. Background music varies; A classic sung in Italian that gives way to a very trumpeter jazz. It’s John Barry’s score, brassier and more strident than supercar tires squealing in the square outside.

This square is the entrance to the casino. Two years ago it was completely rebuilt and although Anish Kapoor’s 1999 ‘Sky Mirror’ remains, the rest of the palm-lined square has been pedestrianised; This is paved with oddly creaking stones. Visit today and you will find that the only cars parked in Place du Casino are the eight motors in prime position outside their gates. It’s the work of the valets, the casino’s fleet of impeccably dressed valets.

“And those spaces,” explains tanned valet Mikael Verando, “are for our very good customers. Those customers will still have such amenities, even if they come in a smart car.”
Verando, looking cool in his off-white uniform, started working at the casino eight years ago. He started as a doorman before becoming a personal driver for VIPs. He has been a valet for four years and he is happy.
“Driving all those nice cars?” He nodded to the approaching Aston Martin. “How could I not be happy? I think I was hired because I am a quiet driver, never pushy. Most modern cars have electronic components, equipment that helps you drive them. is much more difficult with older cars.”
But even the oldest cars are not afraid of the veranda. He may have to suppress his excitement when his beloved supercar, a Ferrari Pista, pulls up in the square, but as a born and bred Monegasque, the valet has spent his life surrounded by incredible vehicles.
How To Start An Online Gambling Business
The annual Monaco Grand Prix is, unsurprisingly, eagerly awaited by all “valets”. During race weekends, the Place du Casino is closed, so valets pick up the cars at the nearby Hôtel Hermitage. Casino patrons are then taken to the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, ushered into a hidden elevator, and guided beneath the square through a secret underground tunnel. When Winston Churchill visited the hotel, he used the same passage, to the gambling table (where Aristotle Onassis financed him chips).
And yet, while Formula 1 meetings may perpetuate certain traditions, the place is never short of high-caliber cars. “Here,” says Verando, “we see the most expensive cars in the world all year round. Ferrari Monzas. Bugatti Chirons. Porsches. Bentleys. Lamborghinis.”
And each is admired and protected in equal measure. Despite Monaco’s reputation for security, a valet constantly watches over the key box. Verando said there were police and cameras everywhere. There’s even a prison, but one with an ocean view.
But security needs to be strengthened. Throughout the casino’s sixteen-century history, many men have attempted to “break the bank”, often by the wrong means. In 1891, fraudster Charles Wells won big – earning notoriety, a lot of suspicion and the equivalent of 13 million. Today, money changes hands at suitably flashy crates, dotted across the gambling hall and crowned with the word “Cassie” in Art Deco style. Especially well-heeled guests also have a host team at their fingertips – to pick up what they want.
The Math Behind Betting Odds & Gambling
“Whether it’s a Diet Coke or a helicopter,” laughs Thomas Bonafede. As the natural leader of the VIP party, Bonafede made demands ranging from the spectacular to the outlandish. “It can be anything – within the law.”
Sitting in the casino’s ‘Salle Schmitt’ and greeting each passing visitor, Bonafede explains how
